Just another manic Monday…
Early start for our Tales of Turquoise styled shoot and the weather wasn’t looking very good. We had Raymond my brother-in-law and his cousin Tommy packing their van up to the rafters with flowers, archways, a grammaphone and a magic lamp! And I, in my little van full of flowers and my assistant Carly.
We set off to Camp Katur in Bedale, North Yorkshire arriving later than expected due to the sat nav sending us on a detour, but no to worry as we were welcomed with smiley faces and fresh coffee.
We set to turning an old barn with very little in it, into a rustic splendour of a wedding scene fit for a very bohemian bride. Firstly, we needed light so taking down of three very large plastic covers was the job for Raymondo and Tommy. Luckily we had brought the step ladders which ended up coming in handy as one of the key props.
The table setting was created next and the archway erected. Just the model now to work her beauty and charm.
I chose a contrast of fresh pastels with a warmth of coppers and deep burgundy to create these unique boho vibe wedding flowers.
Styled with lots of texture and natural materials, turquoise was my key inspiration. It worked beautifully with a variety of chosen flowers – but also the copper, which when wet, changes its appearance over time to a rustic turquoise green – a true natural partnership.
Foliage including eucalyptus was used to pick up the tones in the denim jacket, denim boots and the stationery and the asparagus fern simulated the lace detail of the dress and blanket.
Mixed spring flowers were used throughout the floral arrangements – along with cream tulips, white prunus and white syringa, white ranunculus, paperwhites, blue oxypetalum, green viburnum, blue delphiniums and the stems of a birch tree.
Apricot matthiola, peach roses, deep park helleborus and the dark burgundy astrantia added warmth and a contrast to the blue/green hues – and enhanced the turquoise vases and chiffon on the table and archway.
The wooden bowls and plain linen napkins also brought in a relaxed, rustic feel – adorned with simple stems of grape hyacinths – the record player and lamp added a vintage twist.
The archway was dressed in turquoise chiffon and a floral arrangement was created using the same flowers and colour scheme but I kept it more foilage based as to not detract away from the bride and her bouquet.
The bouquet was a large loose design. Spring flowers were included which gave plenty of scent to evoke the senses and an air of dream like memories. The bouquet was tied off using turquoise chiffon and lace ribbon in a relaxed knot.
I am the queen of floral crowns but in this instance I thought a more resevered and simple approach was more enhancing to the bohemian vibe.
I had so much fun working alongside some amazing creative people who worked beautifully together supporting each other. I definately would love to work with these people again. Total positivity is what I look for when working with suppliers and I would highly recommend this team of people to help style your wedding. You can see my floral collection of photographs here.
